Sightseeing in Chennai

Chennai is the 6th most populated city in India. So it stands to reason that there are a lot of attractions that millions of people from around the country and world come to see in this city. Here are some must-visit destinations that you need to add to your Chennai sightseeing list:

Marina Beach


First on the list of places to visit in Chennai and located just under 3 km away from Raj Park Hotel, is Marina Beach, the longest beach in India. Stretching to almost 12 km, it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the entire country. It is the final resting place of a number of notable Tamil figures. A casual walk along its length will result in sightings of joggers, lovers, amateur cricketers and kite-flyers, among others.

Government Museum


If you like history and old things in general, this is the perfect place for you. This is the second-oldest museum in the country and a visit here is a staple on the list of things to do in Chennai if you are a history buff. It is located around 4 km away from Raj Park Hotel Chennai and has five buildings, each dedicated to different fields of interest, and the largest collection of bronze statues in Asia.

Madras War Cemetery


This cemetery was built to immortalize almost 2000 brave souls who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country during both the World Wars. It is maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and is a poignant stop to add to your list of sightseeing places in Chennai. It is located a half-hour drive away from Raj Park Chennai.

Kapaleeshwarar Temple


Originally constructed over 13 centuries ago, this souvenir of remarkable Dravidian architecture is situated just under 3 km away from Raj Park Hotel. It was destroyed by the Portuguese and rebuilt in 1566. This temple should be on the list of places to visit in Chennai for both pious visitors, as well as enthusiasts of enduring architecture and engineering.

MGR Film City


Located a short half-hour drive away from Raj Park hotel, the home of Tamil cinema, or Kollywood, must be on the top of the Chennai sightseeing list for anybody remotely interested in the history of cinema in Tamil Nadu. And if you're lucky, you might catch a glimpse of your favourite stars!
